Monthly Musings: July

And just like that, we’re in the heat of the summer. (In the literal sense too – just last week, Toronto had broken its highest recorded temperature on that day in 54 years). The children are out of school, the days are getting hotter, more people are flocking to the cottage on the weekends, and the summer barbeques are ramping up. It never fails to amaze me (or scare me) how fast the summer months fly by. This is pretty disappointing since Canada only gets so many months of good weather in a year. This sudden realization scared me in another way in that I realized I didn’t have much longer to do all the things I had originally put on my “summer bucket list.” It’s hard because, for our entire lives, we have all these grand ideas of things we want to do and goals we want to achieve.…

June Reads

I’m going to be trying this new thing where I’ll review and rate the books I read every month and let you guys know if they’re worth the read! I’ll try it out for a while and if you guys like these types of posts, comment below! There will be no spoilers, so don’t worry! This month I read 3 books (I could’ve read more but exams were taking up my time haha): Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse  Andrews Where’d you go, Bernadette by Maria Semple 1. Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson (4/5)  I am outcast. Speak is a very popular book with a storyline that resonates among both teens and adults. The main theme, which is evident judging from the book title alone, is all about having the courage to speak up for yourself. Something horrible happened to the main…

Inspiration center

I’m a huge fan of quotes. When I have some time or when I have nothing else to do, I’ll go online and search for some of the most famous or inspirational quotes. I can spend hours doing this. With each quote I find, I’m even more inspired. Sometimes, if I find a really good quote, I’ll just sit there at my desk completely in awe of the quote. Some leave me speechless. Some leave me thinking. Some leave me sad and some leave me happy. What I like to do is to write the ones I like either in my journal or on a sticky note. That way, I’ll be able to remember the ones that really took my breath away. Below are some of my favourite quotes and I hope that they will truly inspire you. Enjoy! Other favourite quotes include:  “Experience is simply the name we give…

My favourite magazines

I absolutely love reading magazines. When I have some ‘me’ time, I’ll just pick up a magazine and start flipping through it. I get super excited each time a new issue comes in the mail and I’ll read the entire thing right away. I’m interested in different types of magazine, however, most of them revolve somehow around celebrities, fashion and beauty. In fact, I plan on getting an internship at a magazine company in the future. I love the design aspect of it, the glamorous pictures, the talk of the new ‘it’ trends, the superb articles, etc. Below are some of my recent favourite magazines. 1. Flare (Fashion, Beauty)  I recently just started subscribing to this magazine and I can already say that I’m in love with it. First off, the subscription price is incredibly cheap for such a high-quality magazine. It’s DEFINITELY a bang for your buck. There are some…

My top 5 favourite books

I love to read and I can proudly say I’m a book nerd. Reading is something that I truly enjoy doing in my free time. I love all sorts of authors and all genres of books. Come to think of it, there have only been a couple books that I’ve read that I didn’t like. Reading has become a significant part of my life.  I’ve fallen in love with countless fictional characters and I can dictate so many amazing quotes that I’ve read. I couldn’t possibly imagine living a life without books and without reading. I like to think that reading is also like travelling. You’re transported to a completely new environment and are surrounded by completely new people. It’s easy to just leave all your heavy baggage behind and live a new life for a while. Maybe you’ll be a detective solving a new murder case, a heroine trying…
