Colourful Curacao

Curacao, Curacao, oh Curacao. What a gem. Seriously. Whether you know the island from the famous liquor Blue Curacao or you’ve heard of the ABC Islands mentioned by travel agents, this island is definitely worth paying a visit to. In 1634, the island was occupied by the Dutch. Today, it is an independent country but the Dutch influences do not go unnoticed. Dutch is Curacao’s official language and the currency is the Netherlands Antillean guilder, also commonly known as the florin. Even through the architecture can you see the Dutch influences. I was excited for this one because not only was there a lot to see and do but there was a lot of TIME to do all the “seeing” and “doing”, which isn’t something you have a lot of during port days. Christmas Cruising in the Caribbean

The new year celebrations are winding down and everybody is facing the reality of the new year, the back to work blues, and their newly made resolutions they will force themselves to stick to for the first month or so. While everybody is drudgingly heading back to work, we’re heading off the plane and back home. How did we spend our Christmas and New Year’s this time? On a boat, just like we always have. We escaped our frigid Canadian weather, yet again, to travel to sunny Florida and hop on a boat so we could distance ourselves from the snow as much as we could. 25 below zero weather wasn’t going to cut it for us – we wanted the sun, sand, and surf. AND WE’RE OFF AGAIN

The stores are breaking out their red and green decorations. Christmas trees, with their garlands and ornaments, are making their long- awaited appearances. The mall is packed with those searching for the perfect gift. The smell of hot chocolate and holiday drinks lingers in the air everywhere. Jingle Bells and Deck the Halls are playing on the radio on repeat. As the Christmas holidays are approaching, I have finally finalized my Christmas vacation plans and I couldn’t be more excited. After my tedious adventure exploring the cities of Europe during the summer months, this is my chance to finally put up my feet and take a breather.
